How it started A college student buys a shack.
Yes, an actual shack – it was so small only 4 people could be inside at a time. The dream was to make the best darn sandwich around: big in size to match big flavor, made-to-order and stuffed with fresh ingredients. With hard work, and a little luck, Togo’s became a local favorite for those in San Jose, California.

By ensuring that our employees love their job, it motivates them to make sure guests love Togo’s too. And it’s more than just paying a fair wage and equipping them with training to excel in their duties, it’s about investing in them as individuals, and giving them opportunities to grow. Whether a high schooler’s first gig, or the 15 year veteran of sandwich-slinging, everybody is given a chance to succeed.

The world has dramatically changed during our past 50 years – when we opened, the internet didn’t even exist! We’re committed to continually update our stores to cater to the technologically-savvy culture that exists today. We’re also proud that when you walk into a Togo’s, you’ll still be greeted with a welcome smile, just like in 1971. And while much has changed, being True to the Sandwich will never change.
